FC 231 - Strategic Loop Controller Station (SLC01-02)

The Type SLC01 Strategic Loop Controller (SLC) station function code provides the interface between the control configuration and the strategic loop controller faceplate. This function

code passes operating parameter values to the faceplate.

 

Example operating parameters include the process variable, set point and control output. Function code 231 resides at fixed block 900 and has 14 block outputs (900 through 913). The

SLC station function code allows performing various control actions and taking manual control of the outputs.

231.1.1  Specifications

 

S1

Specification S1 is the block address of the M/A station (function code 80) associated with loop one. Specification S1has two functions.

 

  • Allows the SLC station block to get loop information from the M/A station. The Type SLC controller can display this information on the faceplate. The M/A station must be configured as a passive station by setting S16 of function code 80 to 254.

  • Enables the M/A station faceplate to be placed in automatic or manual mode. Adjustment of the control output is possible in manual mode and set point output in automatic mode.

 

S2

Specification S2 is the block address of the M/A station (function code 80) in loop two. Refer to S1.

 

S3

Specification S3 is the block address of general purpose alarm one. Its input is a real number that is usually the control output status of the device driver block (function code 123, N+1) or analog input status of the analog input definition (function code 182, N+1) if so configured. Its purpose is to alarm the operator during bad status conditions. During a bad status condition, the alarm indicator on the SLC faceplate flashes and the alarm status output of the SLC station changes to a logic 1. The SLC alarm summary menu displays a GENERAL #1 message while this input is a one.

 

S4

Specification S4 is the block address of general purpose alarm two. The SLC alarm summary menu displays a GENERAL #2 message while this input is a one. Refer to S3.

 

S5

Specification S5 is the block address of general purpose alarm three. The SLC alarm summary menu displays a GENERAL #3 message while this input is a one. Refer to S3.

 

S6

Specification S6 is the block address of general purpose alarm four. The SLC alarm summary menu displays a GENERAL #4 message while this input is a one. Refer to S3.

 

S7

Specification S7 is the block address of auxiliary input one. This input allows the display of any real block output. Engineering units are displayed using the ASCII block (function code 113).

 

S8

Specification S7 is the block address of auxiliary input two. This input allows the display of any real block output. Engineering units are displayed using the ASCII block (function code 113).

 

S9

Specification S9 is the block address of external alarm signal one. A boolean input of one generates an alarm. The alarm indicator on the SLC faceplate flashes and the alarm status output of the SLC station changes to a logic 1. The SLC alarm summary menu displays an EXTERNAL #1 message while this input is a one.

 

S10

Specification S10 is the block address of external alarm signal two. An input of one generates an alarm. The alarm indicator on the SLC faceplate flashes and the alarm status output of the SLC station changes to a logic 1. The SLC alarm summary menu displays an EXTERNAL #2 message while this input is one.

 

S11

Specification S11 is the block address of the first ASCII string descriptor block (function code 113). This specification passes loop tag names and engineering units for display on the SLC faceplate. Each fixed function code 113 contains information for its respective loop.

 

S12

Specification S12 is the block address of the output override permissive for digital output one. When the output of the block specified by S12 is a one, manual override of this output from the faceplate is permitted (if this output is unlocked from the faceplate setup screen).

 

S13

Specification S13 is the block address of the output override permissive for digital output two. Refer to S12.

 

S14

Specification S14 is the block address of the output override permissive for digital output three. Refer to S12.

 

S15

Specification S15 is the block address of the output override permissive for digital output four. Refer to S12.

S16

900

Output block 900 is the alarm status. A logic 1 on this output indicates an alarm state. This occurs if there is an external alarm input or if the SLC I/O, M/A station, or device drivers (if a device driver control output status is linked to the general purpose alarm specification) are in alarm state.

 

901

Output block 901 is the alarm acknowledge key indicator.  This output is a logic 0 during normal operation and becomes a logic 1 for one execution cycle when the alarm acknowledge key is pressed.

 

902

Output block 902 is the loop one faceplate switch output. The Type SLC controller has control of this output from the process display screen for loop one if this function is chosen in a setup screen from the faceplate.

Output block 903 is the loop two faceplate switch output.  Refer to output block 902.

Output block 904 is the output of auxiliary switch one. The operator has control of this switch from the auxiliary switch control screen off the main menu of the faceplate.

231.2   Applications

 

Figure 231-1 illustrates a possible configuration using the SLC station function code. Specifications S1 and S2 are the block addresses of the M/A stations. They allow controlling the mode (manual/auto) and value of the analog outputs as well as the set points.

 

 

 

Specifications S7 and S8 are the block addresses of the auxiliary inputs. These inputs allow displaying any real block outputs.

 

Specifications S9 and S10 are the block addresses of the external alarms. These are general purpose alarm inputs.

 

Specification S11 is the block address of the first ASCII string descriptor block. This block passes tag name, engineering units, and other data to the SLC faceplate for display.

 

Example

 

The SLC station block (function code 231) uses the ASCII string descriptor block (function code 113) loop tag names and engineering units for variables displayed on the SLC

faceplate. Figure 231-1 shows a sample SLC station configuration.  Tables 231-1, 231-2 and 231-3 show the loop tag name/engineering units format used for ASCII blocks 1020, 1021 and 1022 (refer to function code 113).

 

Specification S2 of the ASCII string descriptor is an ID number and can remain at the default value.
